My name is Kary Gaskill, author and illustrator of the Acorn Family Adventures book series. The stories of Roleo, Jumiet, Olivia and Oliver are based on real moments with my husband and children. My family asked me to share our memories though these little Irish mice.

My love for children’s books possibly began with my great-grandma Grace, who was a librarian in Ontario, Oregon. She lovingly cared for the books that were housed in that brick-and-mortar imagination center and spent many hours giving me books to read. Or maybe it began with my big sister, Jalet, who allowed me to dream of faraway places beyond my imagination, while reading books to me under the blankets of our shared bed growing up. Either way, children’s books with their bright pictures and entertaining stories always invited me to be creative in my thinking. 

Now I have my own children’s books on the shelves of the libraries in my hometown and beyond. I hope the stories that I write will resonate with all ages, reminding people of special memories and inspiring new family adventures.

The Acorn Family Adventures books give me a voice to share my family values and traditions. My own Irish heritage motivated me to set these stories in Ireland, with its welcoming people, lush green hills, and scenic coastlines.

I hope the Acorn Family Adventures will allow you to embrace your own family traditions and inspire you to create new traditions as well. We all have a story to share. I encourage you to embrace your own!
